I recently received a letter which was directed to all Federal MPs and was copied to a number of refugee organisations.
The subject line is: Taxpayer funded time spent on other people’s lives
It sets out very well how Australia is failing in its treatment of refugees. Here is the letter:
I would be happy if all Australians read this letter then set out to do a positive act aimed at getting our politicians to STOP the blatant cruelty they administer in our name. WE DID NOT VOTE THEM IN TO TREAT ANY HUMAN SEEKING AID IN THIS MANNER.
How does one comment on this? With tears and prayers for forgiveness
Indeed this is Australia’ s moral, legal and financial failure. On every level our treatment of people in the offshore centres and throughout the system of mandatory detention is a failure. More questions should be asked by all media and all politicians about why people are left to die from medical neglect, why crimes against them have not been properly investigated, why they were trafficked against their will by Australia to places of indefinite concentration, about why they have been kept in sub-human unhealthy conditions for years, about why they have been abused by guards who are paid for by Australia, about why there is do much secrecy, about why public money spent on this is always quarantined from budget estimates, about why superficial letters that amount to lies are written as replies to people who inquire and so much more.
This policy is too harsh, all of our political parties are at fault. We, as voters are responsible for what is done in our name. Enough, I say. I am mortally ashamed of my country’s behaviour in this regard.i am sorry we have become small, mean and vicious.
As a voter I wish I had an option to vote against this. The bipartisan stand of our parliament on this issue flies in the face of democracy and gives no hope to the desperate prisoners of this shameful policy. I truly hate what Australia has become; a self serving, ugly face of fear
and anger.
I am ashamed of the path our country has taken, the sooner this government is voted out, the better, unfortunately there is no guarantee that a new government would be just as bad. Australians, please keep up the pressure to change this, only vote for someone who says they will!
This policy is abhorrent, it questions the workings of our political and legal system when it allows this to happen.
Stop blaming politicians for mistreatment of people at Manus. The person responsible is standing beside you in the train or bus. Mr and Mrs average aussie are all in favour of torture and thats why our democracy votes the pollies who offer it.
The aussies are scared of the masses from asia and middle east and have no idea of how we are going to avoid being taken over by some other nationality or ethnic group. If the pollies say we can stop the flow of refugees by torturing someone else these aussies will cheer and vote for them. That’s democracy!
Sweden, UK and western Europe are just loving their enrichment from the mid east/north Africa, especially the ladies. Nothing to fear. How about you take these ‘refugees’on board
