Not surprisingly, I get a lot of trolls sniping at me on Twitter.
I posted a suggestion recently that we should identify the trolls, without wanting to give them any publicity. People have been writing to me with suggested trolls. The list follows. I will update it as time goes on. Let’s make social media #SocialAgain
Here’s a short-list of people on Twitter who seem unable to tweet anything but false allegations or meaningless insults:
@AstralCowboyz
@bennalongtime
@BoyfromBurleigh
@bush_bushy1961
@ClubMadManus
@Colt_Of_Freedom
@form0sa
@germ_nation1
@GondwanaLands
@GreattobeAussie
@Home_Oh_Hamish
@LeroyGJacobs
@Mabels_Message
@PrimaBaci
@ResistingHate_
@scammersbeware_
@scratchmynose
@SchitCunce
@TiberiusMcGreg1
@UFC_fanboy
@wingisforever
@Yeahnahtoyou
Almost all are anonymous. I refuse to get in to an argument with someone who hides behind an anonymous tag. If we all did that, the cowards would get no oxygen.
Good for you, Julian.
These people are ugly. They are also gutless cowards for throwing senseless comments and lies behind an anonymous internet handle.
Twitter is being ruined by trolls whose only intent appears to be ruining others enjoyment by posting personal insults or false allegations. They rarely post a meaningful comment, and are spoiling the experience for everyone else. The following is a list of identified trolls.
Excellent idea, Julian. I recognise many of those trolls and, upon closer inspection, many of them do double time on Facebook.
Might I suggest you add @bush_bushy1961
He has attacked both you and I – I refuted him once and he instantly blocked me; not even man enough to have a debate!
Dear Julian Burnside,
I admire a lot of what you have to say about how we should be treating refugees in this country, (in stark contrast to how they are treated here!)
There is an issue of accuracy here in this ‘Troll’ list. The use of the term ‘troll’ to describe bullying behavior is a problem. A troll is a person who plays a trick, a prankster. Trolling is what you do on April first. If you call a bully a troll, that’s like saying they are ‘only joking’. Bullying is serious, whether it’s in person or online. This is why people tackling the problem call it online bullying, not trolling. Please consider renaming the list ‘bullies’ … unless it’s just a list of pranksters.
Fair comment, if you are talking about the real world.
The Oxford English Dictionary says:
“…In Scandinavian mythology, One of a race of supernatural beings formerly conceived as giants, now, in Denmark and Sweden, as dwarfs or imps, supposed to inhabit caves or subterranean dwellings” This is supported by quotations from 1616 and 1851.
The OED also has a “Draft partial entry October 2008” which says:
“In extended use: an unpleasant or ugly person.”
But in the on-line environment I think the word “troll” has gained a broader meaning. Wikipedia says “In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting quarrels or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages…”
Nice list
Blocked most of them Julian. Within the firsttweet if they are rude they need to be reported and blocked. Let’s make Twitter Troll Free.And you are a wonderful human being. Thank you for being such a humanitarian.
Hi Julian,
Great idea with the list, I recognise a lot of these trolls as belonging to the #WingNutSockCollective.
My only suggestion is whether @annikasmethurst should be on there. She is a daily telegraph journalist.
Julian (and Pascal), people writing things on the internet that don’t agree with aren’t necessarily “trolls”, they’re people with a different point of view to you. Suggesting adding a journalist the this ‘Troll List’ because you don’t like what she writes is a reflection of your personal intolerance and willingness to censor people. Nice work. Stay classy.
I have taken @annikasmethurst off the list
Bravo Mr Burnside! What an eloquent, classy response to an ugly, ignorant comment.
It’s very hypocritical that you all claim the moral high ground yet are so intolerant of opposing ideas that you label it as ‘hate speech” or like Pascal, relentlessly troll people so badly he violates twitter policy.
I believe that this collective frustration from refugee advocates stems from their inability to achieve any measurable outcomes which is compounded by the fact that most Australians have woken up to the lies of the illegals on Manus and their advocate agitators.
It’s just a pity that most Australians have not woken up to the lies of the (LNP) politicians, who call boat people “illegal” and treat them like criminals.
The fact is, they do not commit an offence by coming here as they do, without a visa. That’s why none of them is ever charged with any offence for arriving in Australia without a visa.
They are simply taken by force and dumped on Manus Island (part of Papua New Guinea) or on Nauru: a small Pacific island, an independent republic, with a population of 10,000 people and a land area smaller than Tullamarine airport in Melbourne.
Here’s the question all Australians should ask our politicians (both major parties): Are we now a country that imprisons and damages innocent people who are brave enough to try to escape persecution?
Hopefully, “we are now a country that” has learnt from Europe’s grave mistake in importing Islamic terrorism into its cities.
Hopefully, “we are now a country that” has enough respect for Islamic history and Islam’s unambiguous teachings that we take its calls for global Islamic supremacy as seriously as its devout adherents do:
‘The Messenger of Allah said: “I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah”
Sahih Muslim 1:30, 1:33
Allah’s Apostle said, “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.’
Sahih Bukhari 1:8:387
“Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.”
Quran 9:29
“He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of Truth, that He may make it conqueror of all religion however much idolaters may be averse.”
Quran 61:9
“He it is Who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all the religions; and Allah is enough for a witness.”
Quran 48:28
“He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion, however much the idolaters may be averse.”
Quran 9:33
“And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah.”
Quran 8:39
(Among the things that entail apostasy from Islam are) to deny that Allah intended the Prophet’s message (Allah bless him and give him peace) to be the religion followed by the entire world
‘Umdat as-Salik wa ‘Uddat an-Nasik o8.7(20)
Well said Harbi!
Let’s hope you never need help yourself, from a fellow human being.
It is ironic indeed that all of the representative countries of the Muslims you champion have overwhelming rejected your “most widely accepted human rights instrument in world history”, having supplanted it with their own Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam, which “subjects all rights and freedom to the Islamic Shari’ah”(Article 24)
